Classic Open Air 2014
3 to 8 July 2014, 19:30 Uhr, Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin
The 23rd edition of the Classic Open Air Festival is opening traditionally with the “First Night“. At the crossover concert, including highlights from classic, film and rock music, known solo artists present parts from their successful repertoires. At the end of the night fireworks will fire the starting shot for all following concerts.
The following festival days have the mottos “Classic Ladies”, “Mozart-Haydn-Beethoven” and “Bella Italia”. Not one but two concerts will be the crowning glory of Classic Open Air 2014: On 7 July the German music band “Unheilig” will present old and new songs in the context of their current tour. On Tuesday, 8 July, sound artist “SCHILLER” will take the audience on an expedition through the world of classical music, interwoven with electronic sounds.
Ai Weiwei – “Evidence”
3 April to 13 July 2014, Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin
Until 13 July 2014 the Martin-Gropius-Bau museum still hosts the political exhibition “Evidence” on 3,000 square meters in 18 rooms and the atrium. It is the world’s largest solo exhibition of the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.
A special fact is that the presented pieces have been especially designed for this exhibition or have never been presented before in Germany. The artist installed, for example, 6,000 plain stools in the atrium, just like the ones that have been used for centuries since the Ming dynasty on the countryside.
Over 150,000 visitors have already been attracted by the expedition since its opening in April 2014. Therefore, the exhibition was recently extended for another week, now running until 13 July. Use the unique opportunity and have a look at the art of one of China’s most famous artists.
