Open the starting gate for the „ Grosser Preis von Berlin“ – the “Grand Prix Day” and seasonal highlight on the Berliner race course!

On Sunday, 21 July 2013, the 123th edition of the “Grosser Preis von Berlin“/Berlin Grand Prix takes place under the auspices of the governing mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit. The trophy money is 175,000 Euros and the distance is the classical Grand Prix course of 2,400 m.

The “Grosser Preis von Berlin“ is a horse race rich in tradition, founded in 1888 in Hoppegarten and taking place in Dusseldorf for 62 years after World War II. It was 2011 that this group I race returned the capital’s race course.

But that’s not all: The “höchstdotierte deutsche Listenrennen“/highly endowed German League race will take place as well on upcoming Sunday at the race course Hoppegarten. Over a distance of 1,800 m trophy money of 80,000 Euros can be won. Feedback is expectantly: 39 horses were enrolled; between 12 and 16 horses are expected to follow through the start.

For the race course owner Gerhard Schöningh this huge attention from international racing stables is just one of the good news this year: Previously, the race course was taken into the monument support program for nationally valuable cultural monuments. Based on this support, a number of restoration actions to preserve and restore buildings and facilities on the race course will be implemented with capital from federal government and the federal state Brandenburg. The financing will be obtained one third from government’s capital, state capital and equity capital. 2013, investments of 750,000 Euros are planned.
